Federally required disclosures and consumer information

Looking for the fine print? We’ve collected legally required information—along with other important details regarding financial aid, campus safety, and academic policies—in one place for easy access.

Notice of availability of institutional and financial aid information

Indiana University distributes a notice of the availability of institutional and financial aid information to all enrolled students at least annually. This information is required under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), the Higher Education Act of 1965 (as amended), the Clery Act, and the Violence Against Women Act.

This page serves as the repository for all information referenced in that notice and is available to current students, prospective students, and university employees. Students are sent a notification regarding the availability of specific institutional, financial aid, and other information via email with a link to this web page.

To ask questions about this information or to request a paper copy of specific portions or all of the information provided below, please contact Chrys Ford, senior associate registrar.

You can learn more about what IU Bloomington has to offer at College Navigator.

Consumer information

In 2008, the U.S. Congress passed the Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA), which mandates, in part, that universities make readily available financial, enrollment, and graduation data about their institution to help students make informed choices about their education. As part of Indiana University’s compliance with federal and state laws, the Office of the Registrar maintains a number of resources to keep our community informed about their rights with regard to higher education.

Costs, aid, and refund policies

You'll also need to agree to IU’s Financial Agreement before registering for classes. Read the Financial Agreement.

The Net Price Calculator can help you estimate your personal costs and potential financial aid.

Access textbook information, including pricing and required materials, through the Student Center.

    Complaints against IU faculty
If you believe that any of your rights have been violated by a member of the university faculty or administration, you can make a formal complaint according to procedures outlined in the Indiana University Code of Student Rights, Responsibilities, and Conduct: Procedures for IU Bloomington. The local campus offices of the dean of students, affirmative action, and faculty and academic affairs are available to assist you in addressing your complaints.

Information about incarcerated students and federal aid:
If you are incarcerated in a federal or state penitentiary, you can’t receive federal student aid (FSA) loans or Pell Grants. As part of the institutional student information report (ISIR) process, student addresses are reviewed for information or identifiable coding (such as inmate number or cell data) that would indicate an incarcerated status. The state of Indiana maintains a registry of sex offenders that contains information about individuals who have been convicted of sex offenses committed against minors. A number of Indiana University degree programs and specific courses either prepare students to work with minors or place them in contact with minors as part of the course.

Any student whose name appears on the registry may be barred from admission to a program or enrollment in a course. The individual academic school will review each case and evaluate potential impact and, as necessary, respond with action.

If you are aware that a student whose name is on the registry is in proximity to children through educational activities, or if you need information on the processes that are followed in addressing such a risk, contact one of the following campus offices:
